Media List Builder Hacks: Insider Tips for the Best Results
Ask any PR pro what they least like about the industry, and more likely than not, they’ll tell you that they simply can’t stand building media lists.
Depending on their length, they can take up to 6 hours to create! They require lots of in-depth research to ensure the journalists being pitched have relevant beats, are in relevant publications, and are still writing. And then, even when you find the perfect journalists, you still have to scour the internet to find their email addresses!
And yet, media list building is perhaps the most important aspect of PR. After all, what’s the point of crafting a perfect pitch and excellent press release if it doesn’t go to the right people?
That’s why I love using Propel’s Amiga-powered media list builder. It’s straightforward and saves me hours out of my day.
I simply enter my pitch or press release into the prompt section of the media list builder, and within a few seconds I can have a list of 10, 50, or even 75 journalists!
I then go through the list to make sure that everyone is relevant, signaling a thumbs up on the journalist card if they are, and a thumbs down if they aren’t. This helps train the AI to be even more accurate for next time.
But what I most enjoy is the ability to search using a single journalist’s name. I can put in the name of any journalist I want, and the algorithm will give me a list of journalists with similar beats from different publications. It’s so convenient and saves me hours every week.
Being able to use Amiga every day has relieved me of a lot of the stress inherent in PR, as well as freed me up to pivot my time and energy toward the more strategic aspects of the profession, such as strategizing, focusing on messaging, and positioning the company as a world leader in the industry.
