Take Note of Using Notes in Propel
Sometimes when I'm building out a media list, I’ll find the perfect, most relevant journalist to pitch. I excitedly click on their profile in Propel, but then I notice that there’s a note. What does it say?
Bummer, on to the next one.
But to be honest, thank goodness this note was there! I was able to use my time to find someone else who would be just as relevant and much more likely to read my pitch and cover the story. After all, why pitch someone a story when you know they won’t open it until much later?
I’ve found that this feature is a great way to synchronously communicate with teammates about how to pitch different journalists. As opposed to just being told, “this journalist isn’t available,” or “only pitch this person about X” and hoping to remember it. Instead, the information is all there for anyone on the team to see.
This is also a great way to organize journalists by pitching round. I write a note for myself to pitch a specific person at a certain time, and it helps prevent double pitching.
Making the notes themselves is really simple. All I have to do is click on the “add note” button and type away.
The note is then saved on the journalist’s profile, and everyone on my team can see it. They can see who wrote the note, when it was written, and which pitching initiative it’s for.
Getting rid of notes or editing them is also really easy - just click on the “X” button, and it's gone!
Overall, this feature makes communicating a breeze and pitching more effective and efficient than it is when using simple spreadsheets. It only takes moments to do, keeps media lists organized across clients, and presents a clear picture of who is getting pitched and why.
But perhaps most importantly, it keeps all of us teammates on the same page to ensure an effective and successful pitching campaign. We might be a completely remote company with members scattered around the globe, but with tools like this, it certainly doesn’t feel like it!
